Lady Gaga’s Top 9 Collabs: BLACKPINK, Beyonce, Ariana Grande etc.

Described as ‘triumphant’ by the definitive Rolling Stone, Lady Gaga’s latest album “Chromatica” released on May 29 marks her return to the electro dance-pop genre which she had helped define in her earlier days.

The stunning new release features some of the best collaborations we can imagine in pop world today. Think Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s wicked pop track ‘Rain On Me’. Or the highly addicting ‘Sour Candy’ with South Korean girl ensemble BLACKPINK.

Or the most surprising collab of all: with Elton John in a trance dance hit. Say what? While we celebrate Lady Gaga’s new works, KKBOX lists nine top favourite Lady Gaga collaborations through the years.

‘Sour Candy’ - Lady Gaga & BLACKPINK

Fans were thrilled when word of the collaboration between Lady Gaga and South Korean girl group BLACKPINK came about, and ‘Sour Candy’ definitely did not disappoint those high expectations. Catchy and brilliantly arranged, the track is a full-on dance hit that possesses both the distinctive marks of Gaga and the sleek K-pop touch.

The debut of this track was overcast by the #blacklivesmatter movement, which had K-pop fans calling for the hashtag to trend instead of the song’s out of respect for the movement. But hey, anything for a good cause.

‘Rain On Me’ - Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande

This highly-anticipated collaboration between pop princess Ariana Grande and dance-pop mother monster Lady Gaga is set to be the former’s second, and the latter’s fourth, straight-to-the-top song on the Billboard chart. The track showcases the powerful vocals of both artists and sings of uplifting themes like healing. It was intentionally released on May 22, the third anniversary of Ariana’s 2017 Manchester gig that ended tragically in a terror bombing.

‘Sine From Above’ - Lady Gaga & Elton John

Who knew we would live to see the day Elton John sings to a trance track? Fans had previously thought that this collaboration would be a piano ballad typical of Elton John. Well, surprise surprise. Response to the EDM hit has been nothing but positively thunderous. The bold track has cast a new light on both Lady Gaga and Elton John’s abilities, cementing their relevance in today’s music scene.

‘Just Dance’ - Lady Gaga ft. Colby O'Donis (2008)

Wait, Lady Gaga’s debut single that sealed her dance-pop status was a collaboration? Oft-forgotten as a collaborative piece with American singer-songwriter Colby O’Donis, ‘Just Dance’ stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for a whopping 11 months, making it one of the biggest dance-pop hits with 10 million copies sold and earning Lady Gaga her first Grammy’s nomination. This lead track propelled Lady Gaga’s showbiz profile and it remains one of her most iconic songs to date.

‘Telephone’ - Lady Gaga ft. Beyoncé (2010)

Two pop divas, Lady Gaga and Beyonce, in a groundbreaking union. Originally written for — and then rejected by — Britney Spears’ “Circus” album, Lady Gaga took the song to even greater heights. Not only is the song crazily head-bopping, the MV is interesting, offering the exciting second part of the ‘Paparazzi’ storyline. Lady Gaga expressed that this song isn’t ‘just another dance hit’, but highlights the sense of suffocation that she had felt while in the thick of work. The song is her way of finding herself through music.

‘Do What U Want’ - Lady Gaga ft. Christina Aguilera (2014)

Vocal powerhouse Christina Aguilera meets dance pop hitmaker Lady Gaga in this brilliant duet. From her third album “ARTPOP”, the song was covered at The Voice by the duo in a spectacular show of girl power. Of course, the performance gave ‘Do What U Want’ a huge boost on the charts, making it one of the highlights in Lady Gaga’s 2013 album.

‘Anything Goes’ - Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga (2014)

Taking a jaunt in the jazz genre in 2014, Lady Gaga joined hands with legendary jazz vocalist Tony Bennett for a full album “Cheek To Cheek”, hot on the heel of their 2011 collaboration ‘The Lady Is A Tramp’. The lead track ‘Anything Goes’ of the album showcases the sultry, polished side of Lady Gaga and won her praises from critics. The album also took home Grammy’s Best Traditional Pop Album in 2015, making Lady Gaga the only one in history — and continues to be — to have won dance, pop and traditional awards in one's career.

‘Hey Girl’ - Lady Gaga & Florence Welch (2016)

After her jazz fever days, Lady Gaga displayed a stripped-down, country facet of herself with her fifth album “Joanne”. In it, her work with Florence + The Machine’s lead singer Florence Welch, ‘Hey Girl’, found its place in the #girlpower movement. As Lady Gaga and Florence Welch alternate, “We can make it easy if we lift each other’, the singing rhythm seemingly weaves a beautiful narrative of optimism and strength.

〈Shallow〉- Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper (2018)

The Oscar Award-nominated film “A Star Is Born” took Lady Gaga’s star power one notch higher, and her duet with male lead Bradley Cooper’s ‘Shallow’ took the world and charts by storm. Lady Gaga went on to win her first Oscars’, a Golden Globe, two Grammys’ and countless accolades with the song. ‘Shallow’ perfectly encapsulated the love between movie leads Ally and Jackson, using the binaries of shallow and deep-ends to speak of their love. Their raw vocals are moving. This song would also mark Lady Gaga’s fourth Billboard chart-topper.
