KKBOX replaces “LISMO unlimited” in June in the world’s biggest music market--Japan
Asia’s leading online digital music provider, KKBOX, and Japanese telecoms giant KDDI announces that in June they would re-brand the joint cloud music service “LISMO unlimited,” which they launched in 2011, to KKBOX. This is the sixth region in which KKBOX has officially provided services following Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia. In addition to KDDI, telecoms customers such as NTT Docomo and Softbank will be able to use KKBOX services. This is the company’s second major overseas expansion after it launched in Singapore and Malaysia earlier this year.

KKBOX provides more than 10 million tracks for consumers, allowing them to listen to music on multiple devices anywhere they go. In addition to expanding its presence in the Japanese pop music industry, KKBOX will take advantage of its close relationships with Asian record labels to provide music from international artists as well as the newest singles, giving Japanese music lovers more unique choices.

The Japanese music market has great potential, even surpassing US music market as the world’s largest market in recent years. KKBOX began to actively expand cooperation with Japan’s KDDI in 2011. Using state-of-the-art cloud music technology, the two companies launched the music subscription service “LISMO unlimited”. This became a key international stepping stone for KKBOX to branch out into the global music market.

KKBOX has spread its roots far and wide in Asia for years, gaining wide recognition among the region’s music lovers. To provide a consistent worldwide platform and services, the company will change LISMO’s name, integrate resources, and provide the popular music social feature “Listen With” to Japanese users.

On top of providing the world’s largest, most abundant Chinese-language music database, KKBOX also actively cultivates links with local record labels. Because of this, KKBOX provides localized music info, artist interviews and entertainment news. In addition, KKBOX provides the social feature “Listen With,” which allows users to enjoy the unique experience of interacting with their favorite idols. With this combination of unique features, KKBOX provides a globalized product with localized content. KKBOX membership is growing steadily in Singapore and Malaysia. Partnered with StarHub in Singapore, KKBOX and StarHub co-branded service “Music Anywhere” has prepared a series of exciting promotions in the pipeline starting this May, including concert tickets giveaway and meet & greet with artists, to satisfy local music fans.

In the near future, KKBOX will continue to release services in other Asian markets. Through close cooperation with local record labels, KKBOX will offer consumers their favorite music and information about their favorite artists, not only making it possible for them to enjoy music, but also giving them a chance to get closer to their idols.
