Pop music reflects the times. The State Theatre in the 1980s was an important hub for Hong Kong pop culture. In addition to the theatre, there were shops where young people could hang out. One of them, William Records Co. enlightened generations of musicians. Pop music lovers regarded going to the record shop almost as a pilgrimage.
Pop music defines our generation. Every greatest hit is a part of our collective memory, and marks the golden age of the record shop. Veteran radio DJ Wong Chi-chung chose a special playlist for the State Theatre to embrace our cherished past through music as they enjoy the State Theatre.
