Born Shaffer Chimere Smith-McCoy on 18 october 1982. This multitalented Rapper, singer-songwriter, actor and producer goes by the stage-name of Ne-Yo.Among Ne-yo’s famous accomplishment is his debut album from 2006 “In My Own Words” which debuted at no. 1 and sold 301,000 copies in its first week. It sold 2 million copies in the US and 4 million copies worldwide. He has written songs such as “unfaithful” and “Take A Bow” for grammy winning artist Rihanna. Ne-yo’s secong album entitled “Because of You” has sold over 1.5 million units in the US alone.
Year of the Gentleman is ne-yo’s third album which he produced himself with the help of Stargate and many other producers. Its first Single “Closer” has reached no. 1 at the UK singles chart this year alone. It peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 100 charts.Ne-Yo wanted to pay tribute to his many idols which include Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra from the 60’s who were part of the famous “Rat Pack”. Ne-Yo states that he chose this concept for his album :- “Trying to take it back to where you couldn't walk out of the house unless you looked your best” He comments that his idols that “they're suited and everything is right from top to bottom. Not saying it has to be a suit, 'cause clothes don't make the man — it's the attitude and person. The music needs to personify that”.
