KKBOX recently introduced its new Zodiac column, which introduces prominent singers from each star sign and their personality traits. Every year during the Lunar New Year period, we are in the Aquarius season.
Aquariuses tend to be seen by many as the most mysterious of all the star signs. They are unusually reasonable and are straight talkers, but they are also unpredictable at times, leaving their peers confused. Aquariuses also tend to be highly independent, causing their significant others to feel insecure about a lack of passion in the relationship. However, these observant, thoughtful friends of ours actually place a lot of value to their emotional exchanges. Let us find out which singers are Aquariuses!
Ed Sheeran (Birthday - 17 February)
Ed Sheeran - Happier
I know that there's others that deserve you / But my darling, I am still in love with you.
Ed Sheeran’s love songs tend to make the listener yearn for love themselves, but his sad songs can also be very potent tear-jerkers. ‘Happier’ is a song about Ed Sheeran’s own failed relationship. In the song, he describes seeing his ex-girlfriend in the arms of another man just a month after their break up, leaving him heartbroken.
While Aquariuses tend to be very logical, they are susceptible to showing their weaknesses when they enter a serious relationship. This vulnerability also results in them being highly observant of everything their significant other does. In his songs, Ed Sheeran demonstrates this trait through his detailed descriptions of his other halves and their experiences, adding an additional layer of emotional depth to his songs.
Rag'n'Bone Man (Birthday - 29 January)
Rag'n'Bone Man - Giant
I am the giant（Ooh）/ Stand up on my shoulders, tell me what you see.
Winner of the British Breakthrough Act award at the 2017 Brit Awards Rag’n’Bone Man collaborated with renowned DJ Calvin Harris to put out the hit song ‘Giant’, which has made the top ten of the UK Top 100 chart.
Aquariuses like Rag’n’Bone Man are not easily influenced by their environments, and would rather stick to their instincts. To many people, they may seem to have many unrealistic ideas, but this is because they are used to looking ahead, causing them to neglect the present. However, many Aquariuses also seem to deliver results despite this trait.
Shakira & Maluma (Birthdays - Shakira: 2 February, Maluma: 28 January)
Shakira & Maluma - Clandestino
Yo vine a verte, a entretenerme / Y me robaste un beso que aún no piensas devolverme
(I came to see you, to entertain myself /And you stole me a kiss that you still not thinking about giving me back)
What happens when you place two Aquarius latino singers together? This is the third collaboration between Shakira and Malula. After their flirtations on ‘Chantaje’ and addressing the sexual tension after a break in ‘Trap’, the duo explore the impacts of such a relationship in their latest song ‘Clandestino’.
Before they meet the right person, Aquariuses can feel extremely insecure deep down. This insecurity does not steam from their frivolous natures, but rather a reluctance to commit fully before getting to know a person completely. When the other party starts to behave one-sidedly, an Aquarius tends to run out of passion quickly, and the relationship comes to an end.
Harry Styles (Birthday - 1 February)
Harry Styles- Kiwi
She's driving me crazy, but I'm into it, but I'm into it, I'm kinda into it / "I'm having your baby, it's none of your business."
Ex-One Direction member Harry Styles released his critically acclaimed eponymous album Harry Styles in 2017. One of the songs ‘Kiwi’, made waves on the internet, as netizens scrambled to deduce the identity of the “pregnant lady” that Harry Styles sings about. Some fans have guessed that the song is about New Zealand model Georgia Fowler, whom Styles briefly dated in 2015. “Kiwi” is also a common nickname for New Zealanders.
However, Harry Styles eventually clarified the song, claiming it to just be a joke, and did not expect the commotion that came out of it. Just like Styles, Aquariuses love the unexpected, and are often hard to predict. Their songs may contain certain messages that they want to get across, but these are often only known to themselves, leaving audiences to make their own deductions.
Justin Timberlake (Birthday - 31 January)
Justin Timberlake - Soulmate
Let me put my soul on you, it's only right / Let me pull you up out your body, into mine.
Justin Timberlake released his new single ‘Soulmate’ last summer. The suggestive lyrics are a window into what an Aquarius values in a relationship. To an Aquarius in a relationship, he does not just demand your love, but also your soul.
In a relationship, Aquariuses value emotional exchanges over physical satisfaction. When it comes to challenging long distance relationships, Aquariuses are the best. If you end up in a passionate relationship with an Aquarius like Justin Timberlake, you are in luck, as it shows that he or she has chosen you. However, don’t be alarmed by their sudden coldness after a wave of passion.
