音樂製作嘗試跳脫傳統鄒語歌謠的沉穩印象,融合了電子、民謠等音樂元素,並從神靈的觀點出發,唱出祂們獨具性格的一面、也聽見祂們如何從生活和祭儀中庇佑、訓誡、甚至捉弄人們。每一首歌曲都是眾神對族人的獨白,同時也時刻提醒族人,神靈並不遙遠,而是一直存在身邊,陪伴著族人的生命。

關於高蕾雅
來自嘉義阿里山鄒族,跨足演唱、戲劇演出及節目主持等領域,是台灣少數的三金(金曲、金馬、金鐘)入圍藝人。2008年與姊姊高慧君及其他鄒族女孩共同發行《鄒女.在唱歌》母語創作專輯,即入圍第20屆金曲獎「最佳原住民語專輯獎」,隨後也發行個人中文單曲。曾為電影《只要我長大》製作主題曲《愛不用說話》入圍第53屆金馬獎「最佳電影原創歌曲獎」。並主持音樂節目《超級原舞曲》入圍第43屆金鐘獎「最佳綜藝節目主持人獎」。經常受邀參與音樂創作、海內外活動演出,2009年曾代表台灣前往法國Midem唱片展演出(同行演出者為蘇打綠及林強)。
關於悠巴歌謠傳唱隊
玉山為分水嶺,堅挺的鼻子帶著幾分的驕傲,我們是Yupasuengi.「Yupasuengi」是指人們相互取火。時代變了,但旋律依舊,我們身上的火焰在時代洪流之中也不曾熄滅,期盼用歌謠介紹自己,並將這溫度傳遞給更多人。 團員們大多四散各地,有的忙於工作,有的旅外讀書,在這大環境之中,青年們為了生活,也為了生存。但不管身在何方,我們都不曾遺忘,每一次夜深人靜時,從腦海裡浮現的古老曲調;無論是虛詞還是古語,或高或低、或輕或沉,如同前人走過的高山深谷,生命中的激昂哀傷,只要唱一句,祂就再再提醒我們是誰,來自何方。

◎鄒族的神靈信仰至今依然擁有完整的體系及制度,每個神祇有其負責掌權的事務範圍,祂們存在於鄒族人生活中的每一個角落,必且給予族人生活規範:einu。千年來鄒族人在einu中與大地和諧共存著。但也是會有些不好思想的人,而當這些人們破壞了einu,就得承擔眾神們的怒火及大地的反噬了。
The Cou people’s animist belief system remains relatively complete and intact to this day. Each deity has its own sphere of authority, and they are present in every corner of the life of the Cou people and must confer to the people the code of conduct in life: einu. For thousands of years, the Cou have lived in harmony with the earth in the einu. But there are some malevolent characters that seek to disrupt the balance. When these people destroy the einu, they will have to bear the wrath of the gods and the repercussions of the earth.

◎鄒族的河川,孕育許多珍貴的生命物種,也供給鄒族人“真正的魚”。而河川是鄒族生命的泉源,也是能摧毀村莊的野獸。就像ak'e mameoi一樣,每條有名字的溪流河川都有其負責看管的ake' c'oeha。而傳說中,美麗的達娜依谷溪守護神是可以變身成為白鹿或巨鷹。也有討論說,或許日月潭的那隻白鹿就是hicu no tanaiku化身而成。
The rivers of the Cou people are the habitat to many precious species of life and provide the Cou people with "real fish". The rivers are the source of life for the Cou, but they are also the ferocious beasts that can destroy villages. Like the ak'e mameoi, each named stream has its own ak'c'oeha, and legend has it that the beautiful guardian deity of Danayigu River can transform into a white deer or a giant eagle. There are also legends that perhaps the white deer in Sun Moon Lake is the hicu no tanaiku in disguise.

◎小米,是鄒族非常重要的農作物。從一年之初的播種,到盛夏時節的收穫,都有其專屬的祭儀。而hoemyaya更是一系列祭儀中族人最重視的一環。每到小米收成時,每個氏族要將一年辛苦的成果獻給掌管氏族作物收穫的小米女神,感謝她的給予,並且祈求明年能有同樣的豐收。老人家說:『要給她最好的,因為這是她給予的。我們不要貪求更多,能夠溫飽就要滿足了。』
The millet is an important crop for the Cou people. From planting at the beginning of the year till harvest time at the height of summer, there is a dedicated ritual for each process. The hoemyaya is the most important part of the ritual. At the time of the millet harvest, each clan presents the harvests of their hard work to the goddess of millet, who is in charge of the clan's harvest, to thank her for the gift and to pray for a similarly good harvest next year. The elders said, "Give her the best, for this is what she gives. Let us not be greedy and ask for more, but be satisfied with what we already have to eat."

◎鄒族的男孩在出生後到3歲前,會在mayasvi開始前,由母親交給娘家的男性長輩帶到kuba上,讓ia'fafeoi(戰神)認識,並且給予新生兒祝福,讓他在鄒族神靈的庇佑下成長茁壯。在從前,族人也認為,ia'fafeoi(戰神)會同時在patkaya(初登會所)儀式中物色未來的yuozomu(征帥)。
From birth until the age of three, a Cou boy is brought to the kuba by a male elder of his mother's family before the start of the mayasvi to be known by the ia'fafeoi (god of war). The newborn is blessed so that he can grow strong under the blessing of the Cou spirits. In the past, the tribesmen also believed that the ia'fafeoi (god of war) would also look for the future yuozomu (commander) during the patkaya ceremony.

◎曾有鄒族長輩說過:「鄒族,爬一座山,絕對不會說“征服”」。鄒族人尊重獵場裡所有的一切,是以獵場的管理者自居,而不是擁有者。在獵場上,除了有ake mameoi守護土地外,也有hio no aemana,鄒族的氏族之神。hio no aemana負責照顧氏族裡的所有前往獵場狩獵的男人,保守他們在狩獵過程中的平安及收穫。獵人在狩獵時都會遵守祖先留下的山林規範,教導我們族人對待土地萬物生靈不能貪心、也不能因為收穫而驕傲,因為驕傲的獵人,會被氏族之神懲罰,將不再能從山林獲取所需要的。
A Cou elder once said, "The Cou will never say ‘conquer’ when climbing a mountain". The Cou people respect everything in the hunting grounds and act as the good stewards of the hunting grounds, not as owners. On the hunting grounds, in addition to the ake mameoi who guard the land, there is also the hio no aemana, the clan god of the Cou. Hio no aemana is responsible for looking after all the men of the clan who go hunting on the hunting grounds, keeping them safe and productive during their hunts. When hunting, the hunters follow the rules of the mountains left by their forefathers, which teach the tribesmen not to be greedy with the creatures of the land and not to be too arrogant about the catch, for the proud hunter will be punished by the hio no aemana and will no longer be able to get what he needs from the mountains.

◎ia'fafeoi(戰神)是鄒族征戰時依靠的主要神祇,每個大社僅有一位ia'fafeoi(戰神),會在mayasvi時會從天而降。平時征戰時,則是由居住在敵首籠的posonhifi(司命神)陪伴族人上戰場。傳說在從前征戰時,族人會將被祝福的山芙蓉佩戴在身上,就像是一個識別證,每個護身籤條都會有個posonhifi(司命神)跟隨庇佑,在戰場上就像有了防護罩,攻擊也會百發百中,只要戴上了山芙蓉做的護身籤條,族人就能從戰場中平安歸來。
ia'fafeoi (god of war) is the main deity the Cou rely on during their armed conflicts. There is only one ia'fafeoi (god of war) in each large community, and he will descend from the sky at the time of mayasvi. In ordinary battles, the posonhifi (god of fate), who resides in the enemy's head cage, accompanies the clan to the battlefield. Legend has it that in the old days, the clan would wear a blessed Taiwan cotton rose (Hibiscus taiwanensis) on their bodies as an identification card. Each tag would be followed by a posonhifi (god of fate), so that they would have a protective shield on the battlefield and would be able to strike the target during every attack. As long as they wear the blessed labels made of Taiwan cotton rose, the clansmen can return safely from the battlefield.

◎鄒族有個傳說中的搗蛋鬼,鄒語對他們有很多種稱呼。搗蛋鬼就像是個可愛又惱人的小精靈一樣,非常喜歡對醉醺醺的人惡作劇,例如:讓酒醉的人以為自己在跟人打架,但其實旁人看來,就是在打樹幹之類的。讓這些酒醉的人受點傷,然後嘲笑他們因為酒醉而傷痕累累,是搗蛋鬼最愛做的事情。
The Cou people have legendary spirits of mischief that go by many different names. They are like adorable and annoying little elves who like to play pranks on drunk people, such as making drunk people think they are fighting with someone when in fact they are fighting a tree trunk or something to bystanders. The spirits of mischief love to make the drunkards hurt and tease the drunkards for getting bruises as a result of their drunken stupor.

◎漢族有土地公公處理信眾生活中的大小事,而鄒族也有類似的神祗。只要有名稱的土地,就會有負責掌管那個地方的ak'e mameoi,祂們維持著土地萬物的供給平衡,當有人破壞了這個平衡,ak'e mameoi就會使那個人生病,或者讓土地崩塌。聽起來ak'e mameoi好像很兇狠,但祂們其實很溫柔,祂們保護著土地上所有的生靈,並且協助yoifo(巫師)完成族人的請託,是族人們日常生活很重要的依靠。
The Han Chinese people have a God of the Earth who deals with matters big and small in the lives of the believers. Likewise, the Cou people have similar gods and goddesses. As long as the land has a name, there will be a ak'e mameoi in charge of that place, and they maintain the balance of all things in the land. When someone disrupts this balance, the ak'e mameoi will make that person sick or cause the land to collapse. While they may seem fierce and brutal, they are actually gentle gods that protect all life on the land and help the yoifo (shamans) to fulfill the requests of the clan, and they are very important bedrock to the clan in their daily lives.

◎mayasvi為鄒族社群重要的大事,很難用一個中文詞意去表達整個mayasvi的內涵,在過去征戰年代時mayasvi不是定期性的祭儀,當勇士們出征獲得勝利回到部落,就會舉行mayasvi,另外就是當kuba修繕後,也會舉行mayasvi。但現今沒有征戰的年代,mayasvi的舉行與否,是由長老會議決定。而mayasvi在現今也是鄒族文化、信仰流傳的重要儀式。
The mayasvi is a key and highly anticipated event in Cou communities. It is difficult to convey the meaning succinctly in the context of mayasvi in one Chinese word. In the past, mayasvi was not a regular ritual during times of war, but was held when the warriors returned to the tribe after winning the war and when the kuba was repaired. Nowadays, as there are no more wars, the decision to hold a mayasvi or not is made by the council of elders. Mayasvi is today an important ritual in the transmission of the culture and beliefs of the Cou people.
