Benny Goodman能夠在30年代起在樂團中獲得巨大的成功﹐掀起搖擺樂時代的簾幕有許多原因。其中之一﹐Benny Goodman一向知道聽眾的口味所在。Benny Goodman的樂團作品中除了傳統的爵士、藍調樂曲外﹐一直包括了大量當代的流行樂曲﹐而在使樂曲適合跳舞的要求下﹐這些流行曲目又通常是些大眾耳熟能詳輕鬆、或是浪漫溫婉的抒情作品。所有的這些背景﹐使得當時的大樂團或多或少都有一位以上的歌者常駐陣中﹐成為聽眾欣賞音樂的焦點之一。 Benny Goodman的大樂團先後雇用過包括Ward、Tilton以及後期相當著名的Peggy Lee等﹐但當中最早成名的當屬白人女歌者Helen Forrest。1918年出生的Helen Forrest早先在1939年加入Benny Goodman樂團前﹐便已在Artie Shaw大樂團中初試啼聲引起眾人注目。Forrest的歌聲清亮甜美﹐嗓音收放之間亦相當能抓住大樂團搖擺的韻律動感﹐直至往後離開Benny Goodman樂團後仍一直活躍於美國歌唱界﹐是早期最為著名的白人女歌手之一。本張Benny Goodman大樂團精選系列作品《Best Of Big Bands-Featuring Helen Forrest》﹐特別聚焦在Helen Forrest於1939至1941年間與Benny Goodman兩年的合作記錄﹐當中所收錄的16首曲目如＜The Man I Love＞、＜I’m Always Chasing Rainbows＞、＜Smoke In Your Eyes＞、＜Yours Is My Heart Alone＞等﹐均為當年Helen Forrest最為精彩的演出﹐甜美的歌聲加上Benny Goodman悠揚動人的豎笛演奏相得益彰﹐更添搖擺樂魅力。
