Having won Best Female Singer twice at the Golden Melody Awards, and starred in numerous acclaimed films and the Asian leg of Broadway musical Rent, Karen Mok is no doubt among the most prominent entertainers in Asia. In 2013, the versatile Hong Kong singer-actress is finally realizing her dream of making a jazz album. Made with the international market in mind, and counting such notable jazz musicians as Bugge Wesseltoft and Watanabe Sadao in the production crew, Somewhere I Belong is Karen's most ambitious album yet, creating a brand of "Oriental jazz" that combines Western jazz sounds with unique Chinese styles.

The album's eclectic selection includes 1930s jazz standards like My Funny Valentine, Cole Porter's Love for Sale and George Gershwin's The Man I Love, as well as reworked modern pop/rock hits like Sting's Moon Over Bourbon Street and Chris Isaak's Wicked Games. Ever the innovative artist, Karen plays the Chinese instrument guzheng herself in her stylish rendition of The Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps. She also gives Zhou Xuan's classic Mandarin number "Shanghai Nights" a jazzy edge, and includes a brand new nostalgic song she composed called Qing Guo Qing Cheng.
