“Tao” is not unanswerable, but everyone has a different answer.
“Tao” is not endless, but everyone has a different destination.
Tai Chi (Duet):
Tai Chi is created upon the form of duality. The inner expression takes form in the rise and fall of Yin and Yang, while the outer expression takes form in the energy rotation between the Sun and the Moon, the fortune and the misfortune, as well as life and death. The coexistence of strength and gentleness forms an abstract dialogue.
Si Xiang/Four Phenomena (Quartet):
The oneness splits into Tai Chi and then Si Xiang, which represents spaces of the universe and the energy generating from the center of a cross. In this musical creation, percussion quartet pierces through time and spaces, presenting the image of Si Xiang through music.
Liu Ho/Six Harmonies (Sextet):
Si Xiang splits into Liu Ho, which is a continuance of Wu Xing, and includes up and down, right and left, front and rear, a total of six angles and six spaces. Like the formation of Z axis following X-Y axis, it transforms everything in the universe, including thoughts and senses of attachment; answers are no longer on flat surfaces but become three-dimensional.
Ba Gua/Eight Trigrams (Octet):
Liu Ho splits into Ba Gua and the character米combines two crosses to represent double energy of the core of Si Xiang and the transformation of four-dimensional space. Corresponding and mysterious, it is the crystallization and microcosm of the directions of the universe.
Wu Ji/Infinite (Ensemble):
Dividing space and time to an ultimate point becomes Wu Ji. It is not created by splitting Ba Gua but symbolizes the ultimate point in pursuit and discussion, where there is neither a finishing point nor answers. The energy and space that it generates is hundreds of million times of Ba Gua. It is a direction that is boundless and infinite.
Hun Yuan (Solo):
Created upon the conception and the origin before the development of everything to symbolize the prelude of the formation of oneness. The intangible start represents the motivation and the omen of the oneness.
Wu Xing/Five Elements (Ensemble):
Wu Xing is the dividing line of Si Xiang and Liu Ho. The creative concept of this Wu Xing musical piece comes from fire, water, metal, wood and earth in the nature while “wind” is used to guide the beginning and ending of the entire piece. Considering the impermanence of fire and Wu Xing, the composer creates this simple yet deep counterpoint rhythm. The whole piece consists of five rhythmical accents with paigu drum and vibraphone running through it. The creation is sprinkled with conversations between modern civilization and the natural elements of Wu Xing. Toward the end of the composition, the blended five elements present the vastness of nature as well as traditional, abstract poetry and painting for the hearing sensation.
