Hayley & Jayley Woo's Dream KTV Guests: BTS & Shawn Mendes

Singapore celebrity Hayley Woo is a familiar face on local TV. But the actress actually started out wanting to be a singer — inspired by her K-pop idol, Taeyeon.

"One day, I was watching SNSD's performance. I remember the moment when the lights turned off and the audience lit up the concert with their flashlights.I thought to myself I want to be standing on the stage one day," said Hayley wistfully.

The former choir girl will be realising her dream this Friday. This marks Hayley's first solo show as part of theTGIFMusic Station series organised by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre.

Her twin sister Jayley will be there to support Hayley on one condition."As long as she doesn't sabo me to go on stage to sing," said Jayley.

Ahead of Hayley's showcase, KKBOX decided to test how well she knows the lyrics to popular songs. And Jayley was ever ready to help her twin.

The twins also shared what songs they are looping on their playlist, and which girl band they would sign up for in a heartbeat.

Jayley: 'Boys With Luv' by BTS

“I’m someone who likes to read song lyrics. When I read the translation, I felt there was a message to me from someone. That meant a lot to me and brought me a lot of positivity.”

Hayley: Senorita by Shawn Mendes

"The music video and lyrics are very sensual. The tune is really catchy." I like how Sean Mendes sounds like in this song."

What’s your favourite duet? Who would you sing it with?

Jayley: Neyo's Miss Independent with Hayley Woo

"It was the song that got us singing together. After we got to know them, we thought maybe we should try and do music too. Also, the title itself is very empowering. I believe that all women are born to be independent. No offence to guys."

Hayley: The Fish by Crowd Lu with My BFF, Alton Keh

"Alton is my singing partner. Whenever we go to the KTV, we will always harmonise together."

Who is the singer you’d love to hear live? What’s your favourite song by this singer?

Jayley: BTS's Jungkook sing 'Euphoria'

"Because he has the voice of an angel. It's almost as if he is singing for you. I mean, that's what happens with fans. I'll be stoked if I could meet him one day"

Hayley: Senorita by Shawn Mendes

"Other than looking good, Shawn is very talented. He stood out from all the other singing talents on the Vine app."

What’s the one song you always sing at karaoke sessions? If you could invite anyone to your karaoke session, who would it be?

Jayley: 'Remember' by A-Mei / BTS

"There's like my theme song. It's a good song to warm up your vocals. And BTS, that would be like super crazy. To sing karaoke with the whole band would be super fun."

Jayley: 'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing' by Aerosmith

"This song represents something very dear to my heart. It's a song that brings back a lot of memories."

"I really like the lyrics of the song. It touches me."

Which is the song you’d listen to on a rainy day?

Jayley: 'Rhythm of the Rain'《听见下雨的声音》byJay Chou

"It's just the feels of it. When I was in Taiwan, I remember it was raining and the song came on. And I was like, 'Wow, how appropriate."

Hayley: Officially Missing You

"It's just because of the line 'All I hear is raindrops...' That's why I'll think of this song whenever it rains."

If your life had a theme song, what song would it be?

Jayley: 'What's Wrong'《怎么了》by Eric Chou

"Because my favourite colour is blue. The first line of the song goes, '你说蓝色是你最爱的颜色' (You said that your favourite colour is blue). The lyrics also seem to be a message from someone."

Hayley: 'There's Nothing Holding Me Back' byShawn Mendes

"I'm not saying that I can do whatever I want. But there's nothing holding me back from doing what I set my mind on."

What’s your favourite drama/movie OST?

Jayley: 《放不下的活着》'Holding On', the original soundtrack of local drama《復仇女王》' The Queen'

"It's not just because I acted in the show. Every time I watch the show, whenever the song comes on, I cannot help but cry. It's so melodic that you cannot help but sing along."

"It's a song that makes me feel happy whenever I listen to it."

What’s the one song you listen before you go to bed?

Jayley: 《怎么习惯一个人》by Aden Tan

"Because you know... I have to get used to being by myself. Also, I'm working with Aden on a project now. It's a web musical drama, So Bright 2, which will be streamed on Viu.

Hayley: "Any song that I want to learn."

If you could be a girl band, which band would it be?

Jayley: 2NE1

"2NE1 had four people, and my favourite number is four. 2NE1 represents female power and they inspired us to do a lot of things. They have a charisma unlike any other girl groups. They are irreplaceable."

Hayley: Girls' Generation, Little Mix

"SNSD was the first girl band that I really liked. Little Mix members come in different shapes and sizes. I think women should be confident of themselves no matter how they look like. They have very good voices too."
