To say that American rapper Cardi B’s recently released single featuring Megan Thee Stallion has set tongues wagging is a bit of an understatement. Yes, WAP (the acronym is too vulgar to spell out in full here) is a deliciously filthy track hailed by critics as a female empowerment anthem – though, of course, it has its share of conservative naysayers as well.

Whether you love or hate this over-the-top collaboration, there’s no denying the tune - with its highly graphic lyrics and accompanying hyper-sexualised music video – is virtually impossible to ignore.

Here are five of our favourite things about the MV for this banger. Trust us, you won’t be able to look away.

The OTT setting

Setting the scene for 4 minutes and 12 seconds of bangin’ beats and risqué raunchiness, the opening shot is of the exterior of a sprawling mansion.

From the fountain boasting massive statues of both rappers with legs akimbo and water spraying from their – ahem – chests, to the butt sculptures adorning the brightly-coloured interior walls of the house, you just know you’re in for a wild ride. Buckle up.

Kween Kylie’s Cameo

Admittedly, Kylie Jenner of Keeping Up With The Kardashians fame has made an appearance in a laundry list of music videos, from her baby daddy Tyga’s clips for Stimulated and Dope’d Up to Travis Scott’s Stop Trying To Be God, but we ain’t never seen her look this flawless.

Clad in a leopard print bodysuit with a plunging neckline, cape and thigh high boots, she struts the hallways in the WAP video looking like butter wouldn’t melt. Oof.

Other personalities including Fifth Harmony’s Normani and American rapper Mulatto also cameo in WAP, looking like absolute snacks as they wiggle and shake with abandon.

Big Cats Galore

Move over, Joe Exotic. There are two new tiger queens in town in the form of Cardi and Meg. There’s been controversy over the use of live big cats, from white tigers to leopards, even though the animals were filmed on a green screen then edited into the video, and did not interact with the artists.

Even Carole Baskin from Netflix’s much talked about documentary Tiger King has gotten involved, calling out the rappers for glamorising “the idea of rich people having tigers as pets”.

She’s not wrong, we say, as the cats do add an ostentatious vibe to the already titillating MV. Oh, did we mention there are snakes, too?

By now we have come to know Cardi for her bold fashion as well as her music, and in WAP, she and Megan, popular for the ubiquitous TikTok earworm Savage, have nailed various looks, with outfits that make a big impression.

There’s matching pink and yellow corset bodysuits, animal print galore and fishnets and latex – the latter being worn in a sexy shallow swimming pool dance scene that will send pulses racing for sure.

CHEETAH SCENE #WAP @muglerofficial @flongala

These gals are not shy, and given the sexual nature of the song, they’ve amped it up by putting it all out there, quite literally. In a cheetah-themed scene, Cardi wears a costume with the chest area cut out, keeping only her nipples covered. She does the splits and gyrates like crazy, bending over at times and leaving little to the imagination.

Indeed, WAP is bold, bawdy and brilliantly memorable, and these two absolutely own it. Twerk away, ladies.
