张淦勋 (Giyu Tjuljaviya)

Intro

Giyu gained recognition for his gentle image as a folk song singer-songwriter after winning first place in the 2011 Lee Guitars Song Writing Contest. His debut EP, “The Seemingly” explored various styles such as pop, blues, and ballads.

In 2019, he released his second EP, "SPIKY," which adopted a more intense rock style and delved deeper into the autocratic history of Taiwan, self-reflection in a capitalistic society, and how every choice made is based on one's deepest love and fear. With his sophisticated lyrics and authentic, down-to-earth vocals, Giyu brings the sadness and anger in his eyes towards modern society to the audience's ears

In his latest working project, his first album, titled "Clouds Over the Mountains," Giyu departs from the intense states of his previous works and embraces his subtle vocal tone. He describes the hometown scenery and character sketches from his memories, finding the pieces of his multi-ethnic and indigenous self-identity.
